About Freshfields

Ambleside is a wonderful centre, ideally situated for accessing most of the Lake District, for gentle strolls, serious walking and the motorist alike with Freshfields located just sufficiently away from the bustling village centre. Just around the corner are restaurants to suit all tastes along with pubs, cafes and of course some shops for gentle retail therapy.

Less than 15 minutes stroll brings you to the shores of Lake Windermere at Waterhead and enroute, stunning views of the Lake and the Langdale valley are enjoyed from Borrans Park. There are cruises on the lake departing from Waterhead.

Freshfields is a fine Edwardian property built around 1904, the high ceilings and spacious rooms being particularly attractive features. It became a Guest House 16 years ago and we ourselves have been here for 10 years. We suit those wishing to avoid the hubbub of the village centre being just five minutes level walk away in the residential area of Ambleside.

A high standard of accommodation is provided with quality décor, some fine panelling and complemented by treasured antiques including our 18th cent. Grandfather clock built by our ancestor, David Collier.

Our attention to every detail, including fresh flowers, often cut from the garden, allows you to relax in the comfort of our three spacious first floor bedrooms. Once again our efforts have been rewarded by Visit Britain with a coveted SILVER AWARD in addition to our FOUR STAR accolade for 2007/8, we are indeed one of only a handful of Guest Houses in the village to gain this award, ensuring that those little extra touches of hospitality & presentation will make your stay here all the more enjoyable.

Our no smoking policy extends to include the garden and the breakfast room is a “mobile phone free zone” for the quiet enjoyment of all guests.
